some perennial plants that make nice additions to the garden but are usually
difficult to find at a mail order nursery. While
most of these perennials do not attract butterflies or hummingbirds, they are
garden-worthy and definitely on our list of attractive plants. When available, we offer these perennials here: Perovskia atriplicifolia (Russian Sage), Phlomis tuberosa (Jerusalem Sage), Phlox paniculata 'Norah Leigh' (Garden Phlox), Phlox paniculata 'David's Lavender', Phlox paniculata 'Franz Schubert', Physostegia virginiana (Obedient Plant), Pardancanda norrisii (Candy Lily), Oenothera (Evening Primrose), Polemonium caeruleum 'Brise d' Anjou' (Variegated Jacob's Ladder), Potentilla napalensis (Potentilla 'Miss Wilmott'), and Platycodon grandiflorus (Balloon Flower). |

'Norah
Leigh' Phlox(Phlox paniculata 'Norah Leigh') This lovely plant grows 30"-36" high and produces pink flower heads August through September. 'Norah Leigh' has beautiful variegated foliage, making it an asset to the garden even when it is not blooming. Deer resistant and drought tolerant. Highly recommended by Rose Franklin. Obedient Plant (Physostegia virginiana 'Vivid') Obedient plant grows 24"-30"
high and produces lilac-pink flowers August thru September. This plant
spreads fast but is easy to divide. Full sun or part shade. Deer

Variegated
Obedient Plant (Physostegia virginiana 'Variegata') The flowers on the Variegated Obedient Plant are a bit smaller than those on the green leaved variety above, but the foliage is beautiful, green and creamy white. And usually a pink tint is added to the leaves just before it begins to bloom in August. Full sun or part shade. Deer resistant. Perennial, zones 4-9. $4.00 each |

Flower (Platycodon grandiflorus)Balloon Flower grows 18" - 24" high and generally blooms July thru August. Easy to grow and usually pest- and disease- free. One of the last perennials to show new growth in spring. Deer resistant. Perennial, zones 4-9. May be available in June, 2008. |
